TASTING SERIES – The Celtic Arms, Northop

“The Celtic Arms has been a popular restaurant for a long time and I have visited on many occasions.

Since Jose and Nathan took it over, there have been some fantastic changes and not just to the menu but the interior too.

When I heard about a vegan menu being launched I was very excited, although I am not vegan, I love vegetables and I know how high the demand for Veganism is, yet barely any eateries in Flintshire support it.”

From being charmed with a romantic meal, to enjoying a cold beer or prosecco whilst the kids burn off some energy on the large garden and play area in the sun – rest assured, there’s something for everyone’s tastes at The Celtic Arms.

Nestled within the idyllic surroundings of Northop County Park, The Celtic Arms has continuously charmed its customers and having recently celebrated its first year under new management – foot fall is at an all time high with the restaurant’s menu selection attracting more people than ever… and more diets than ever! Booking ahead of arrival is recommend to avoid disappointment.

Open seven days a week (see http://www.thecelticarms.co.uk for opening times), there’s a fantastic menu offering some real classic dishes as well as some slightly more quirky ones! For any gluten-free diners, there’s a whole other menu! The newly introduced Vegan options are clearly labelled on the menus (vg) and my goodness, the choice is hard!

Honestly, I really was blown away. I’ve been before (plenty of times), so I had really high expectations anyway, but usually I’m caught up in the midst of an outing with friends or family so I don’t take as much time to appreciate the little things – I must say, the staff are a breath of fresh air. They were polite, welcoming, interested and very smart but not too formal – this level of customer service is hard to find nowadays.

I specifically love it here because I love seafood and the fish menu is incredible, I’m sure some people can relate to me when I say this, but it was difficult for me to opt for a different dish! But am I glad I did!!

There’s a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes to choose from (for those who aren’t familiar with the vegan diet – they really aren’t that far-fetched!). After much deliberation, I opted for the Tempura Zucchini & Roasted Red Pepper Hummus for starter, Butternut Squash, Golden Beetroot & Spinach Parcel for my main and the Dark Chocolate Torte for pudding.

Wow is all I can say, the food was divine, the portion sizes were perfect, the presentation was lovely and the plates just looked delicious with all those vegetable colours.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and although I was left pleasantly full, I didn’t get the heaviness that comes with meats – so that was a nice surprise. All in all if you haven’t already you have to book a table here and try it out – vegan menu or not they never fail to impress… But give the vegan options a try, you won’t be disappointed.
